The West of Mauritius is characterized by the wild beauty of its landscapes. Renowned for its legendary sunsets, its lagoon bordered by the Morne and the mountains of the Black River Gorges National Park, the West is a landscape worthy of a postcard! The iconic Morne-Brabant on the south end of the west coast is a must-see for hikers wishing to discover a place rich in history. The lagoon, renowned for being one of the best kitesurf spots in the world, makes the delight of kite surfers who offer a ballet of colorful sails.
This region is also home to the seaside village of Flic en Flac, the Tamarin Falls, the tropical Île aux Benitiers, the colourful landscapes of Chamarel, as well as the Black River Gorges National Park. Less populated than the North, it’s a good place to live! There are also many shops, bars, restaurants, schools and clinics nearby.
The West Coast has continued to develop in recent years, and has seen majestic real estate developments on its coastline, both on the water and on the mountainside. The Marguery Heights or Legend Hill villas on the heights of Tourelle Mountain and their breathtaking views of the lagoon and Le Morne will enchant you. The west coast will also delight golfers, with the Tamarina golf estate. Finally, those who seek peace and quiet will find their happiness in Akasha or Matala, in sublime villas not far from the sea.
Tamarin, a typical town on the Mauritian coast, is a charming village known for its salt marsh. Set off to meet the dolphins in the bay as you sail to the Île aux Benitiers, a magical moment! In the heart of the village you will find the Paul et Virginie French Kindergarten and Elementary School.
Soon after Tamarin is Black River, home to many shops, including the shopping mall of Ruisseau Créole. Black River is located by the sea, you will find large waterfront houses or on the heights, but also high-end apartments and beautiful penthouses overlooking the only marina of Mauritius, the Balise.
Flic en Flac is a friendly fishing village, bordered by a very long beach of three kilometers and peaceful turquoise waters, little frequented during the week. The ideal place to discover the seabed, its tropical fish, caves and shipwrecks. The village has the advantage of being close to the international school WestCoast and being located about forty minutes from Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius.
Chamarel is the Seven Colored Earth, and the region of the waterfalls, a territory where are mixed with steep rock faces and many rivers. With more than 6,500 hectares, the Black River Gorges National Park is a maze of hiking trails that are all richer than each other. Take a stroll through the park and discover rivers that drop into the void at several hundred meters above sea level and grandiose panoramas.
Finally, La Gaulette, last village before the mountain of Le Morne, is the paradise of kite surfers, local or just passing through Mauritius. When the conditions are favorable, he mixes fishermen and surfers in an exceptional multicultural atmosphere. La Gaulette is also home to restaurants and shops, and is one of the many points of departure to the Île aux Bénitiers and to the mythical Crystal Rock.
